How to turn off Windows 8 Metro UI

On September 20, 2011, in computers, by george

I don’t know about anyone else, but I really don’t like the new Windows 8 Metro UI on my desktop. On a tablet or phone, it looks like it would work great, but on my desktop it’s just frustrating.

Right now on the Windows 8 developer copy, which you can download here, you can turn off the Metro UI by editing the registry:

In the following registry location

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

Look for the “RPEnabled” key and change its value from “1″ to “0″.

This will make the Metro UI go away.
